TANGRA AND OTHER TANGALE FESTIVALS OF KALTUNGO PEOPLE

An Introduction

The Tangale people, mainly spread across three local government areas, Kaltungo, Shongom and Billiri, with some handful found in Akko and Kwame local governments, are found in Gombe State, Nigeria. They are divided into two, Tangale East comprising Kaltungo, Ture and Shongom and Tangale West, comprising mainly Billiri and some parts of Akko.
Like other tribes, the people of Kaltungo in Tangale East, observe certain festivals which include; Tangra, Eku, Pid Tungo, Kaltungo Carnival, Par Tida, etc.
One of the oldest and most colorful is the Tangra festival.

TANGRA FESTIVAL

Tangra is done before the advent of the rainy season and it’s primarily done to cleanse the land of iniquities, so that the rains will fall and there will be bountiful harvest.
The Tangra normally starts from Ture, headed by the chief priest.

All hard work
All wisdom and intelligence
All persistence and diligence
All sincerity and prudence
…sustenance for existence!
To live
“One has to be in the right place, the right time”
Where is the right place?
When is the right time?
I shall know only when I am destined?

If all our labors should be for daily bread…
If we must not bother because we are not called…
What is “hope” for?
Our expectations that came out of the faith in us
Will it also be a part of the treasures to be buried someday beneath the earth?

Yes someday
Oh, that miracles would happen on that day…
And I shall wear a crown of honor…

English translation;
PURE LOVE

Each time I think of God
I think of love
Each time I think of love
I think of you
Pure love
This is your domain
But
Are you really mine?

This is an attempt at writing a poem in my native Tangale dialect, which I am not too good at and it is my very first!
The poem “Pure Love”, is from my first collection of poems “Heart Dreams”. Corrections and observations from those that are vast in the language will be appreciated.

Power To Change The Universe!

Human beings are capable of changing the universe from rot to perfection. All that is needed is the release of unified concentration of energies, or powers!

Humans can emit power vibrations from their aura’s. When these (power vibrations) are organized and channeled towards a Paradise like world, the earth will receive the energy and process same to turn the world into a sweet place!

Wherever you are, begin to release positive vibrations (energy) into the universe and watch the unfolding of a planet like no other, in beauty and bliss!
